Are you always the one to solve conflicts in the family? Think you’ve got a talent for bringing people together? Do you know when to step back and let dialogue occur and when direction is needed? If so, then perhaps you should consider a career in mediation.
Independent mediators are used when conflicts escalate and cannot be resolved. A third party independent mediator comes in to the workplace in an attempt to resolve the conflict through open and honest discussion. You have to be entirely impartial to the argument itself, and must never take sides. You must make sure that the dialogue is future focused and not about finding a winner or loser to the dispute.
If this sounds like something you would be good at then there are a whole variety of courses you can take that are run by accredited mediators. Mediation training often focuses on using real life examples in order to learn how to successfully deal with them. When the courses are run for you and your company, they will be tailored to suit your place of work. Taking into account the way your business is run and so forth.
Managing conflictcan seem stressful at time, but it’s a fantastic skill to possess. It is not only useful in the workplace but can be useful in the home, as well as a number of other situations. The kinds of skills you gain from becoming a mediator are invaluable as they are so entirely transferable. Not only will they be helpful to have for your own workplace, but for anywhere else you ended up choosing to work in the future.
Wherever there are people there will probably be conflict at at least one point. By training to be a mediator, you will hopefully be able to make sure that conflict is nipped in the bud as soon as is possible, letting the office resume work as normal and causing as little disturbance as is possible.
